The Art of Perfection: Miura’s Forging Process

Welcome to Miuraism.com, where we celebrate the art, science, and legacy behind Miura Golf's world-renowned craftsmanship. At Miura, every club is a masterpiece forged with precision, care, and dedication to unparalleled quality. Let’s take you behind the scenes to explore the meticulous forging process that defines the Miura difference.

The Foundation: Selecting Premium Materials

Every great creation starts with a strong foundation, and for Miura, that foundation is S20C premium soft carbon steel. This material, known for its exceptional strength and flexibility, is delivered to Miura’s factory in various sizes and lengths. Skilled craftsmen cut and measure the billets with precision to match the weight specifications of each club model. From the very start, Miura ensures absolute consistency and adherence to the highest tolerances.

First Forging: Crafting the Blank Canvas

The transformation begins as the billets are heated to 1,200°C. The first strike compresses the billet into a flat shape, preparing it for the next step in the forging process. Unique to Miura’s method, the club head is forged without an attached hosel at this stage. This allows for superior manipulation of the grain structure, a critical element that contributes to Miura’s unmatched feel and performance.

Second Forging: Shaping the Icon

Immediately after the first strike, the heated steel is placed into a second die. Here, the billet begins to take the shape of a golf club head. The precision and timing of this process ensure a seamless transition from raw material to forged masterpiece.

Deburring: Refining the Form

Following the second strike, the club head is cooled in a tray before moving to the deburring stage. By heating the billet only once for the initial strikes, Miura achieves incredible precision, reducing inconsistencies and enhancing the uniformity of the forging process.

Accurate Forge: Defining Perfection

The club head is reheated to 800-900°C, allowing for further refinement of its grain structure and ensuring exact specifications for weight, distribution, and density. Known as the W.D.D. Accurate Forged method, this step epitomizes Miura’s relentless pursuit of precision. Each model and loft requires three sets of dies to achieve the desired characteristics, reflecting the patience and expertise invested in every club.

Stamping: Sealing the Identity

Next, the Miura logo, numbers, and scoring lines are carefully stamped onto the club head. This step is performed using proprietary machines and techniques, with a focus on precision. The grooves and scoring lines are particularly important, as they determine the club’s lie, loft, and offset. Any misalignment could compromise the integrity of the club, but at Miura, perfection is the standard.

Spin Forging: The Hosel Connection

In a step unique to Miura’s process, the hosel is attached to the club head using a spin forging technique. This innovative method uses friction to seamlessly meld the two components without the need for additional adhesives. The result is a club that is both elegant and functional, with precise loft, lie, and offset configurations maintained to a +/- 0.5 gram tolerance.

The Miura Difference

Every step in Miura’s forging process reflects the dedication to craftsmanship that has defined the brand since its inception.
